The Tournament
The tournament (renamed The Masters in 1939) has been held every year since then, with the exception of 1943-45, and is often considered the most prestigious of golf's four major championships. Its sweeping fairways and signature, lightning-quick greens make the course at once playable for just about anyone yet nonetheless quite challenging. Golf Course
The Augusta National Golf Course is largely the result of the vision of Bobby Jones. Having retired from championship golf in 1930, Jones sought to achieve two of his longtime goals: to build a golf course and to serve golf by hosting a national tournament. He realized these ambitions by teaming up with Clifford Roberts to first construct and then host the Augusta National Invitation Tournament in 1934.
